
Directed by Tommy Smith, the Scottish
National Jazz Orchestra blew audiences away at the 2007 Glasgow Jazz Festival,
performing new arrangements of John Coltrane material, in a tribute to the late
jazz legend.
The
Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, directed by Tommy Smith, honour the memory of
a jazz giant with specially commissioned arrangements of classic compositions
from the career of John Coltrane.
Smith's Youth
Orchestra continue to play their monthly slot at the new Jazz Centre (the
LOT) in Edinburgh giving the young musicians vital live performance
experience. They play music of Maria Schnieder, Gil Evans, Duke Ellington,
Kenny Wheeler, Charles Mingus, Cedar Walton, Dizzy Gillespie, Jaco
Pastorious, Oliver Nelson, Pat Metheny and Count Basie.
